Vignobles JeanJean – Les Hauts de Castelmaure – Vendanges Manuelles 2013 – Corbières

Red wine with a medium towards high colour intensity, we have a ruby core here with still a youthful hint of purple. Pure nose, quite intense, there’s a slight hint of development here, even if it’s still vibrant, young and fruity. I feel what I call a Southern French spiciness here, some hints of garrigue and bouquet garni. Some herbal notes here, sweet plum, red berries, very Southern French again I would say in style. Palate is rather full, we have a quite round texture here, fine tannins on the palate, but it’s really dominated by this sweet juicy fruit with red plum, strawberry, with those peppery and herbal notes. More emphasis on fruit here, there’s not really a lot of oak dominating here. Very charming, with a nice juicy red fruitiness, those plummy notes, fine herbal spicy notes on the finish. Good length as well, keeps lingering, I would still call this young but perfectly drinkable, with this texture it’s a wine that would develop complexity over the next 2-3 years. Good.
