Sibona – Grappa XO Aged Cuvée

Quite deep golden towards amber, with also some green hints here. This is indicating quite some age. Very nuance nose. Doesn’t really have the roughness of younger grappa, rather more developed notes; of tobacco leaf, cedar wood, cigar box, spice box, some liquorice, honey and mascarpone and chocolate nuts. Nice attack on the palate, that really does it for me, because it has at first that rough attack I like from grappa. Alcohol however is really nicely integrated, as it has layers of those nutty, slightly sweeter flavours. It is not sweet, it is rather the alcohol and also the maturity . The wood is integrated and has also added some complexity to it. Really long finish; and here I can talk about some complexity, because there is a lot of spiciness going on in the end. It also really has a nice digestive effect.

Tasted by the Best Sommelier of the World, Andreas Larsson.
