Rolland Galarreta – R&G Tempranillo 2011 – Rioja

Wine with a fairly youthful appearance here, from a medium towards deep ruby-red. Quite generous nose here. With a fair amount of roasted oak, some vanilla wood. With quite ripe fruit here, more in the red fruity spectrum, with plum, with some cranberry, rosehip. There is a lot of spiciness as well here. There is pepper, some liquorice, anise seed. The palate I would call it a classic medium weight. Medium towards full. Quite rounded with upfront and generous fruit. There is still a slightly youthful tannic presence there. Quite fine but quite a lot of them. The oak is present with some vanilla and a slight hint of toastiness. Finish is medium towards long quite bold and ripe with opulent fruit. So a very charming style slightly modern, with great upfront fruit to enjoy today. It should have an ageing potential for another four to six years.
