Very deep colour, very deep core, dark ruby; the rim though is indicating a certain age, as it’s more towards the tawny and there’s nothing blue or purple in it anymore, so it’s got a certain evolution. Expressive nose with some complexity, again displaying a certain level of development, with some notes of leather, spices, tobacco, with dark fruit like cherry and cassis. Rich structure, it is a high concentration with a good density and weight in terms of fruit, much more on the dark fruity side, still however with a clear presence of tannin; and I think this is just starting to open up – I would probably like to keep it for some more time to let it run off those tannins – but I think it’s well-made, with attractive dark fruit. It has a good length, a quite lingering finish. Oak is also well-integrated right now, and I think on the nose I got some of those more traditional saddle, leather, gamey spiciness but there’s a bit less on the palate so it’s still to me a good drinkability, with attractive dark fruit. So a wine I would keep for another few years in the cellar, but could certainly be enjoyed today.
