Bodegas Lan – Culmen Reserva 2010 – Rioja

Young red wine with a quite intense ruby almost purple core, high density and viscosity. Quite modern nose, with a combination of ripe dark fruit and some roasted oak; fine spiciness as well. Dense and concentrated palate. Nicely structured, it has a fairly good extract but pretty well melted into the wine at this stage. We still feel some of that roasted oak, and then we have layers of that dark fruitiness, dark plum, dark berries; there’s some aniseed, sage. Still youthful, with that combination of young tannins and acidity, but a very good length, and I still would say without hard edges. It can certainly be enjoyed today even though it has the concentration to go on for many years in a cool cellar. Nice stuff.
