Château du Domaine de L’Eglise – 2012 – Pomerol

Quite deep intensity with a ruby-red nuance. Very fine nose here. Intense and perfumed with floral notes. There is also some earthy hints there of damp earth or a slight hint of truffle. So I suppose we should call it mineral. Then plenty of ripe fruits there; like blackberry, ripe raspberry. So really intriguing and inviting. Very nice palate here. Plenty of flavour intensity. Good weight, full-bodied. However with a rounded texture here. Grainy tannin, some notes of dark chocolate. I did not get a lot of oak on the nose. There is a hint more of it on the palate, but finely roasted, not obtrusive at all. Because there is such a wealth of dark, juicy fruit, particularly there are beautiful notes of raspberry, blackberry. Good level of freshness as well. I think it is a rather youthful wine, but it is a very fine drinkability today. I would say this is made more in a – maybe it is sacrilegious to call a Bordeaux for a Burgundian, but I think in terms of texture it is rounded, it is opulent, fleshy. Yet in an elegant style. Good length, good finish. A wine that should keep really well, but I find it rather delicious to drink now.
